Ok, so Boyd and Paul and Roy arrived. Beer and rain and food and fun was had. Back to the jeep tour:
After the sights, we head off to a famous place for seafood. HCM district 4. A finer choice of edible snails I have never seen. There are safer options like giant shrimp should the snails, squid, octopus, live frogs and eels be not to one’s taste. We are semi brave with a good selection of snails, clams and mussels, backed up by delicious meaty shrimp.
After our marine extravaganza, the jeep continues a tour of the city, under tunnels and over bridges to see the nightscape from good angles. Tropical rain had turned up so the canvas roof is rolled out, but it’s not entirely waterproof so we end up just as wet. The tour finishes in an open rooftop cocktail bar, for which we are wildly underdressed, but arrive just in time to see our thunderstorm flash off into the distance as the sky clears.
In a nice touch, the tour owners join us for a drink. They are excited because the website is new and we are their first customers to book online. We give glittering feedback, it really was great.
Day 3
A lazy one. There’s a bit of tiredness/jetlag going on today, so we decide to relax and get a massage while we wait for the others to arrive. For a little over £6 we allow ourselves to get thoroughly beaten up by a couple of girls about half our size. They must be half ant or something to have that much strength! Couple of beers, bit of writing, and the boys arrive! This is where we came in.
So after a night on the beers and catching up with old friends from around the world all meeting here, we kip, and next day get a flight up to Da Nang for Hoi An where the bike tour proper starts tomorrow. Here we go!
